Jerome Boateng: Fans blast VAR for ignoring Boateng’s handball which blocked Haaland's strike

There was controversy on Tuesday, May 26 during the Der Klassiker after Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng appeared to have deliberately blocked Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund’s goal-bound shot.

Fans have cried out as video review was controversially not called upon despite the ball striking Boateng's arm inside the box.

Boateng appeared to have dived to deflect Halaand’s shot wide with his hand as the ball went for a corner, but VAR was not consulted despite calls.

"How did VAR not even look at Boateng's handball there? Stonewall penalty denied for Dortmund," one social media user wrote.

A second tweeted: "How was that not a penalty against Boateng!? Clearly stuck out his elbow which denied a goalscoring chance."

A third added: "Surely that's a handball from Boateng? Stops Haaland from scoring."

The lack of VAR proved costly as Bayern Munich beat Borussia Dortmund 1-0 thanks to a first half goal from Joshua Kimmich.
