The Definitive Edition of Mafia III has seemingly been downgraded and no longer supports the previous Xbox One X enhancements that the original game had. 2K has now confirmed this is an error and is looking into the issue.

Mafia III was recently upgraded for all players to the Definitive Edition via a 10GB update. The update made all of the game's previous DLCs available for free. However, according to testing done by Digital Foundry, Eurogamer reports that Mafia III: Definitive Edition now runs at 900p on the Xbox One X compared to the original version of the game that previously ran at 1728p. The Microsoft Store listing for the Definitive Edition promises "full 4K". Players over on Reddit are reporting that the game looks much worse on Xbox One X consoles than it did previously. The PS4 Pro version has also been affected.

Responding to Digital Foundry, 2K said, "The development team supporting Mafia III: Definitive Edition is aware of this issue and is working to restore support for Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro as soon as possible."

2K recently announced the Mafia Trilogy which includes not only Mafia III: Definitive Edition, but a full-on remake of the first Mafia game and a remastered version of Mafia II.
