Exclusive: How China used deception to mobilise troops at border with India in Ladakh

In a bid to assert regional dominance, China deceived India by quickly mobilising its troops on the Indo-China border at Ladakh.

India's long time bittersweet friend used troops that were engaged in a war game on the Chinese side and rushed them to the border with India in trucks used to ferry mud for an airbase project not far off from Indian areas.

Due to this heavy mobilisation of troops, the Chinese were able to spring a surprise for a short while as they gained numerical strength over the Indian security forces deployed in these areas.

Sources said that Chinese troops that were taking part in a military exercise on their side of the border under the Lhasa Military District were quickly sent in heavy vehicles to the Indian borders.

More trucks were called from nearby areas where an airfield is being taken over by the People's Liberation Army and mud is being supplied for its expansion, to send troops in heavy vehicles to the Indian border.

Around May 5-6, the Chinese troop present started to build up on the LAC and they aggressively marched into some Indian areas to raise an objection to the infrastructure projects going on there and stake claim over them.

Sources said that China has built infrastructure on their side of the border for over two decades and the terrain there also helps them to mobilise faster. The connectivity of the Western Highway and state roads there has also helped the Chinese to deploy rapidly.

While the Chinese had an advantage in terms of infrastructure, the Indian side was also hampered due to the ongoing measures imposed in view of the spread of the coronavirus.

China has rapidly deployed around 5000 troops close to the LAC and at some places over Indian territory.

Despite the initial surprise, Indian forces have managed to plug in all the gaps in time and match the Chinese numbers.

They are not allowing the Chinese troops to do any manoeuvers on the Indian soil as whenever they try to move around they are confronted by the Indian troops in equal measure.

India has also decided that it will not allow any external objection to hamper its ongoing infrastructure projects in the Ladakh region which includes a road to be built up to the closest point on the Karakoram pass.
