Google To Give Employees ₹75K For Buying Furniture Or Laptops To Make WFH Easier

Work from home has been like a roller coaster ride for many people globally. While figuring out the digital or tech aspect of it has been difficult, having pets as co-workers has been absolutely fun (and distracting). Well, either way, no one is complaining as working from the comfort of your house is a blessing.

Speaking of which, Google has decided to give $1,000 (Approximately Rs 75,000) to each of its employees globally to ensure that work from home goes smoothly for them. The allowance will help them buy necessary equipment and office furniture, reports the Business Insider.

“Because we still expect that most Googlers will be largely working from home for the rest of this year, we’ll be giving each Googler an allowance of $1,000 USD, or the equivalent value in your country, to expense necessary equipment and office furniture,” Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, was quoted saying by News18.

According to him, if condition permits, they might also re-open more offices in more cities around the world by July 6. However, returning to the office will be a voluntary choice. They are expecting only 10% occupancy depending on local conditions. “This will give Googlers who need to come back to the office—or, capacity permitting, who want to come back—the opportunity to return on a limited, rotating basis,” he added.

Google will follow rigorous safety measures to ensure social distancing and sanitization guidelines. The allowance will not only ease the burden on employees but also help boost their morale during these tough times. Google’s work culture has always been in line with modern times.

Honestly, it wouldn’t hurt if other companies follow suit and offer such an allowance as well. After all, for how long will my brother’s backpack be my WFH desk?
