Sheldon And Amy Contest Against Each Other To Solve Big Bang Theory’s Biggest Mystery

by

Big Bang Theory might have needed but fans have always wanted to know the answer to this question. Who really is smarter? Is it Amy or is it Sheldon?

In the heart of all nerd jokes, board games, star wars references and life-long friendships Big Bang Theory was about a group of friends who were very very intelligent.

All extremely educated (Penny made her choices) working at wonderful jobs, it is quite hard to decide who the smartest Big Bang Theory character is.

Highlights

We have Sheldon and Amy, despite the odds stacked up against them we knew that this couple was meant to last. Sure, their love was born out of Howard Wolowitz and Raj Koothrappali setting up an online dating profile for Sheldon.

But this relationship proved good for Sheldon as Amy is probably the only person in the series who can challenge Sheldon intellectually and may even be smarter.

Sheldon and Amy: The IQ

The very first thing you realise as you start watching the Big Bang Theory is that Sheldon is a genius. But soon you realise that not only is Sheldon Cooper a genius, he’s a freaking child Prodigy. Graduating from college just at the age of 11, Sheldon possess an IQ of 187.

To put that into perspective, Albert Einstein had an IQ of 160. So did Stephen Hawking. There is no denial that Sheldon is a genius, but Amy is pretty smart too.

Amy is said to have an IQ upwards from Leonard whose is 173. That means, Amy isn’t really that far off from where Sheldon stands.

But where Amy and Leonard both fail is that Sheldon has an eidetic memory. Eidetic memory is the ability to create a perfect mental image of anything after having looked at it just once. The existence of such a phenomenon even existing is still under discussion with many people dismissing it entirely.

But intellectual intelligence is not the only thing in question here.

Sheldon and Amy: The EQ

There are different types of intelligence that makes the spectrum a whole circle. While there is IQ i.e., the intelligent quotient that Sheldon and Amy have plenty of, there is also the emotional quotient that may be lacking in one.

In the Big Bang, we see Sheldon struggle with close relationships, unable to empathise, is unaware of the feelings of people around him and reading a room is an impossible task for him. He himself agrees on a number of occasions that he can never tell if he’s hurt someone. Sheldon is just being himself.

On the other hand, Amy, albeit, socially awkward in the beginning of Big Bang Theory, adapts herself pretty quickly to those around her. And in the seasons that progress after Sheldon and Amy meet we see Amy shaping up Sheldon up into a better human being. Someone more aware of his feelings and those around him. And that too without Sheldon noticing!

Sheldon and Amy: Better Together

Sheldon might have the higher IQ but Amy wins with her EQ. Not only did Sheldon become a better human being with Amy by his side, Amy helped Sheldon achieve his dreams career-wise as well. It was due to Amy’s emotional and intellectual support that Sheldon ends up winning the Nobel Prize in the finale episode of Big Bang Theory.

Sheldon delivers a heartbreakingly beautiful speech thanking his friends and Amy for their support and what their love and friendship has meant to him. Without Amy, we would have never lived to see this moment.

And Sheldon gave Amy the love story she wanted but never knew she could have. Together with Sheldon, she worked harder and pushed beyond the boundaries of excellence she had built to limit herself.

And we support a Power-Couple that Sheldon and Amy are! But who do think is smarter? Sheldon or Amy? Let us know in the comments below!
