LINCOLN PARISH, La, (KNOE) - The summer reading movement kicks off at Lincoln Parish Library on Thursday and the library is offering curbside registration for the program.

“Imagine Your Story” is this year’s summer reading theme. The Magic of Fairytales inspires it. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, the library will begin curbside registration for the program.

The staff will be dressed in costume handing out reading logs and books, as well as prizes after the kids reach their goal as determined by their grading level.

For first and second graders, they must log ten books a week to get a prize. For third through sixth grade, they receive a prize for every 500 pages they read.

The head of the children’s department, Shannon Perot, said this will be a contactless experience.

"You can pick up your prizes the same way. You just put it in your trunk, close your trunk, and we don't have to have any contact. We can also pick up your books, put them in your trunk. We want to make everyone comfortable,” said Perot.

The library is also keeping children entertained with virtual storytimes and weekly arts and crafts. After Thursday’s curbside registration there will be a virtual magic show on their Facebook page at 3 p.m.

Perot said it’s important for children to keep reading and have fun while doing it.

“I know how important it is for children to keep reading all summer. Especially this summer with the changes that we have in our schools. So we want to be a part of keeping our children on level and keeping them reading all summer,” she said.

The summer reading program will be from May 28 to July 28.
