The Free Edinburgh Fringe Launches Online Video Portal

by

The Free Edinburgh Fringe part of the summer comedy proceedings within the Scottish city are to go online, in a way, promising to broadcast the sets of "six prominent comedians" via Twitch streams.

Six comedians does not seem to tally with the usual number of shows up in and around Edinburgh during the summer festival season, but still. It's perhaps something to do, and it's unlikely any of them will be Michael McIntyre. In fact, we have just read through to the relevant part of the press release and have a list of names for you that are starring in the first broadcast: Matt Price, Nik Coppin, Vladimir McTavish, Robyn Perkins, Dave Chawner (host) and Jay Sodagar.

We have not heard of any of those, but that's our fault not theirs. It's hard to hear comedy performers when you've spent the last 20 years refusing to laugh at anything or expose yourself to anything that's supposed to be funny. There's some weird promotional thing going on where Cisco's Webex platform keeps being mentioned, so Cisco must've provided some free laptops and webcams and suchlike.

May 30 is when the fun begins, and by August the schedule will include something/someone new every day. Plus there's a chat window for heckling remotely now. [FreeFringeFestivalOnline]
