Bakery giant Greggs has confirmed it plans to reopen more branches next month.
Greggs closed its doors on March 24 following the Government announcement that placed the country into lockdown.
Despite plans to initially open 20 branches earlier this month in and around Newcastle as a test of its new social distancing measures ahead of reopening across the country , Greggs decided to instead operate its trials behind closed doors.
Greggs says it is now confident it can extend shop trials further with plans to increase the number of shops open from the middle of June.
A spokesperson for Greggs said: “We have planned and delivered robust shop trials using our new operational safety measures and they have progressed well allowing us to now move to open an increased number of our shops from mid-June”.
No exact locations of where the reopened branches will be have yet been revealed.
The news follows the announcement on Monday by the Government in which Boris Johnson said car showrooms and outdoor markets could reopen on Monday, June 1 and non-essential shops from June 15.
