Banned van driver caught lying to police

A banned motorist was caught lying to police after officers threatened to take his fingerprints.

The white Ford Transit was stopped while driving on cloned number plates through Netherton, in Dudley.

It turned out the driver had just been released from prison and was disqualified from driving.

At first, the motorist gave false details about his identity. But when he saw officers' finger print device he "came clean", say police.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police tweeted: "We saw this cloned Ford Transit in Netherton yesterday.

"The driver gave false details until he saw our finger print device then he came clean.

"It turned out he was disqualified from driving and had not long been released from prison for the same offence."
