The coronavirus crisis’ implications include, among other things, the unfortunate truth that visiting Israel is off-limits for most people for the time being.

Another implication is that over the past couple of months people’s wine consumption has gone through the roof. You know, to ease this whole home isolation thing.

And while there’s no beating sipping fabulous Israeli wine while looking out at gorgeous Holy Land landscapes, you can come as close as currently possible to doing so with an online series celebrating blue-and-white wines.

Hosted by Kosherwine.com and the Israel Wine Producers Association, the virtual, 24-part series takes participants on a whirlwind tour of the local wine scene. Events include wine tasting with winemakers and vineyard and winery tours, as well as cocktail and cooking classes.

Those wanting to buff up on their wine knowledge can join talks on grape varieties, fermentation and blending wines. There’s even a wine-centric Zoom picnic on the agenda.

Participating wineries include some of Israel’s best – Domaine du Castel, Flam, Tulip and Yatir, to name just a few – meaning tours and talks are given by the country’s top professionals.

The series took off on May 3 and is running through July 5. Wine lovers of all levels may register for the free events, as well as submit questions to the experts prior to each session.

Viewers can also purchase sampler sets from the participating wineries, so that they can taste it along with the lecturers or enjoy on their own afterward. The events are taking place with Eastern time in mind so are easy to catch stateside but are also recorded for participants’ convenience.
