80% of iPhone 12 Displays Will Be Provided By Samsung Display
by Argam ArtashyanSamsung Display is expected to provide nearly 80% of the OLED display for the iPhone 12 series.
iPhone 12 Four Models
Earlier, it was reported that this year’s new iPhone (iPhone 12) has a total of four models: one will have a 5.4-inch screen, two models will come with a 6.1-inch display, and one will be way larger 6.7 inches.
All four iPhones will be equipped with OLED (organic light-emitting diode) panels, and all will support 5G networks. They are said to come later this year. Digitimes said that due to the impact of the epidemic and the significant increase in OLED production capacity, new products based on the Mini LED have not been significantly improved in 2020. So Apple still chooses the OLED panel screen as the target device of the iPhone 12.

Last week, a report released by display analyst Ross Young showed that this year’s new iPhone will use Samsung’s and LG Display’s OLED panels, of which Samsung will provide panels for three of the four new iPhones.
Young said that the 5.4-inch iPhone 12, 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro, and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max will all use Samsung Display’s flexible OLED panels. At the same time, the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Max will OLED panels coming our way from BOE and LG Display.
Samsung will still play an important role in the production of OLED displays as it did many years ago. According to reports, Samsung Display has acquired nearly 80% of all panel orders for the next generation iPhone series. The rest will be shared among BOE and LG Display.
BOE joining the party
In fact, we have reported this back in February. That time we said BOE had been involved in Apple’s OLED business for some time but did not yet reach Apple’s quality standards. However, the company now appears confident in the matter. And they have started investing in factories and equipment to become Apple’s suppliers in the future. In 2021, BOE may become the third Apple OLED supplier after Samsung Display and LG Display.
Also, insiders revealed that BOE recently decided to invest in OLED production lines exclusively for Apple. They plan to build 10 new production lines at their B11 OLED factory in Sichuan. The company has been following up on OLED screen projects for the iPhone. However, because its OLEDs have not yet met Apple’s stringent quality assessments, no agreement has been reached with the latter.
