Fifers face further wait to dispose of bulky waste as council’s plans to reopen recycling centres revealed

Fifers face a further wait to dispose of bulky waste after plans for a phased reopening of recycling centres were revealed.

Across the region, five household waste recycling centres will be reopened at the start of next week. These will be in Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes, St Andrews and Lochgelly.

To use one of the five centres, members of the public must book a 10 minute slot through Fife Council’s website, at fife.gov.uk/recyclingcentres.

Bulky waste will not be accepted until a later date.

Robin Baird, chief operating officer of Fife Resource Solutions (FRS), which runs recycling services on behalf of Fife Council, said: “Our top priority is to make sure both local people and our staff are kept safe, which is why stringent health and safety requirements, including sanitisation, social distancing and traffic management are now in place across our recycling centres that are reopening.

“Recycling centre visits must be booked, or you will not be allowed access.”

Bookable slots at the centres reopening on Monday will be available between 9.10am and 5.30pm.

Householders have been told to be aware that only certain materials are being accepted at this time.

These are landfill, green garden waste, paper and cardboard, and cans and plastics.
