Music enriches our lives, both in terms of entertainment and as an emotional and spiritual release. With that in mind, it may come as no surprise that people often share songs with others. But this can become somewhat challenging when you learn that your friends are using entirely different music streaming platforms than you are.

It may seem like a trifling matter, but it really can be rather annoying when I trying to share a Spotify song link with a friend who uses Apple Music or another platform. Obviously, they won’t be able to use my link since they’re subscribed to a different service, and that’s where a new and free jailbreak tweak dubbed SongShare by iOS developer Jeff Rescignano comes into play.

SongShare works by creating a universal link for any song you attempt to share with friends. It uses one of two services – either SongLink or SongWhip – to make this possible, and each service supports a different subset of music platforms. The tweak’s part in this process is to automatically generate a SongLink or SongWhip link when you copy a link to your clipboard from any of your favorite media apps.

SongLink is the default service, while SongWhip is an alternative and optional service. The former supports a lot more music platforms, but if you should want to use the latter for any reason, then the option is there.

Once installed, SongShare adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app where you can configure the tweak to your liking:

Here, you can:

The developer includes an Apply button at the top-right of the preference pane to help you save any changes you make on demand.

If you and a lot of people you know enjoy listening to Music, then SongShare is a great way to get the most out of your music listening experience. Best of all, creating these universal links to streaming services is legal whereas sending physical song files is not.

SongShare is available as a free download from the Dynastic Repo repository via your preferred package manager and supports jailbroken iOS 13 devices. Furthermore, the tweak is open source on the developer’s GitHub page.
