Mini gives Countryman a subtle facelift, tech upgrade for 2021

The biggest Mini in the range has just got updated and upgraded. Making its world debut is the 2021 Countryman, and the changes are more than just cosmetic. Aside from refreshed looks, there's more tech and standard features to bring this Mini bang up to date.

For 2021, the Countryman gets a bigger, bolder front grill flanked by redesigned LED headlights and foglights. Like the refreshed hatchback, the updated crossover also sports the eye-catching 'Union Jack' LED taillights.

Also new for the 2021 model year are two color options. These colors are White Silver and Sage Green. Mini also gave the Countryman new lightweight alloy wheels choices to distinguish it from last year's model. There's an optional Piano Black exterior trim where key sections of the Countryman's exterior are finished in black rather than chrome.

Inside, drivers are greeted by a "Sport" leather steering wheel which is now standard across the range. But what is perhaps the most important upgrade on the Countryman is the new digital cockpit display. Similar to what BMW has on their models, the 5-inch instrument panel now features digital gauges and multi-info display, as well as displays for the navigation system and other in-car functions.

Providing in-car entertainment is an 8.8-inch touchscreen display. It now comes with Mini's Connected Media and Connected Navigation Plus systems. Features such as Bluetooth, USB, Apple Carplay, Amazon Alexa, real-time traffic information, and other digital services are now available for the 2021 Countryman.

Under the hood sits the same range of turbocharged gasoline and diesel engines that have been carried over from the pre-facelift model. Power output for the gasoline engines ranges from 102 PS to 220 PS, while the diesel models range from 116 PS to 190 PS. As far as transmission options are concerned, the updated Countryman can be had with a six-speed automatic, seven-speed dual-clutch, and an eight-speed automatic.

For those that want their Countryman with additional on-road performance, there's the John Cooper Works version which doles out a healthy 301 PS.

Sales and delivery of the 2021 Mini Countryman will begin sometime later this year.
