Teen Math Whiz Is Tutoring More Than 600,000 Students Online Amid Lockdown

The 16-year-old "TikTok Tutor" has taken remote-learning to the next level.

TikTok is the new "it place" where dance challenges and viral videos are accumulating nonstop; however, there is an evergrowing side of it that is providing a new learning experience for students by people uploading videos explaining algebra equations, graphing, and SAT problems.

In such instance, 16-year-old Alexis Loveraz, a junior math whiz with a 4.0 average at Harlem Prep High School, has gained the title of "TikTok Tutor" by posting tips on algebra, geometry, and chemistry on the video-sharing platform.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Alexis is helping fellow students, and people love him since he has a natural talent for teaching complicated subjects with ease.

His remote student-base is growing day by day: More than 600,000 people have already signed up for lessons with him.

Alexis' journey on TikTok started some time before the pandemic closed schools; however, it was during the lockdown that his videos hit a peak. Students, struggling with new subjects and trying to remember their prior knowledge, confined in Alexis' videos which explained the concepts in detail and with ease.

As of this writing, he now has around 660,000 followers and 5.8 million likes on TikTok.

In an interview with CBS2, Alexis said, "I was, like, really shocked. Things that they probably forgot before COVID-19, this is like a refresher of what I'm giving them out. It's really cool because they understand it even better the way I'm explaining it to them."

Moreover, his tutorials are reaching new students and more places day by day. He says, "It reached places like United States, Canada, Australia, the Philippines, Singapore."

The best part is his motivation to make new videos comes from a place of ingenuity. When he was asked what his main motivation was, Alexis answered, "The knowledge I have, like, I want to share it with other people."
