Dean Ketchum, a teacher and administrator with nearly 30 years’ experience, has been named the next head of school at John Rex Charter School.

Ketchum has been confirmed by the school’s board of directors. Although his official start is July 1, Ketchum already has begun work to support staff, prepare for the upcoming school year and make introductions within the school community.

“My teaching career began in Norman, Oklahoma, and I am excited to return to the state to be part of this incredible school,” Ketchum said.

“The experiences I’ve had in the classroom and as a principal have taught me to think broadly about serving a diverse population of learners,” he said. “I hope to instill the same perspective through our entire faculty and staff.”

Nathaniel Harding, chair of the John Rex Charter School board of directors, said Ketchum’s experience will benefit the entire school community.

“Dean Ketchum has taught everything from kindergarten to eighth grade and served as a leader at one of the top urban schools in New York City,” Harding said. “Additionally, he worked in the Oklahoma State Department of Education as the executive director of school improvement.”

“The board believes he has the vision, experience and passion to lead our school to new heights,” Harding said.
