Man dies after being struck by train in Salisbury
by David WhisenantSALISBURY, N.C. (WBTV) - A man struck by a train while riding a bicycle near the tracks in Salisbury Wednesday morning has died, Salisbury police confirm.
Norfolk Southern says an eastbound train struck the man at the E. Council Street Crossing. The train was 53 cars long and was in route from Charlotte to Chicago.
The crew was not injured, Norfolk Southern says, and a relief crew jumped in to finish the trip.
Firefighters, police, and EMS were called to the scene.
The man’s name has not been released.
“Norfolk Southern continues to remind the public that even during the current pandemic, train traffic remains constant and extreme care should be taken when approaching or crossing railroad tracks,” Norfolk Southern says.
