Watch - Wrecked car inside police cordon as Mary Street in Balsall Heath is sealed off

Detectives and a search team were at the scene as the road remained closed for several hours following late-night incident

A Birmingham road was sealed off today amid a heavy police presence following reports of a serious incident.

Mary Street in Balsall Heath was cordoned off at both ends, with a wrecked silver Citroen inside the no-go zone.

There were several police vans at each side of the cordon. Detectives were on the scene and a search team was present.

We have contacted West Midlands Police and are awaiting details about the nature of the incident, which was said to have happened on Tuesday evening, May 26.

A passer-by said: “Two detectives are there. A search team has arrived. Both ends of the street are cordoned off.

"There is a silver Citroen which is completely battered and a lamppost is down.”
