Aaron Wan-Bissaka can become the complete full-back at Manchester United thanks to his unique approach to defending.

That is the view of Colin Omogbehin, the coach who discovered Wan-Bissaka in South London and honed the player's skills in the Crystal Palace academy.

Wan-Bissaka is now known as a fierce full-back who puts defending before anything else, but that wasn't always the case.

Omogbehin, who signed the United star aged seven for his grassroots London club Junior Elite, has explained how Wan-Bissaka grew up as a centre-forward and won countless awards for his goal-scoring before changing positions - first to right-wing and then to right-back where the 22-year-old now is now revered worldwide.

Omogbehin is now an Under-23s coach at Fulham but told MEN Sport exclusively about his work with a young Wan-Bissaka.

"You would have put your house on him progressing as an attacking player and having a career in the game," says Omogbehin.

"But instead he's ended up being a fantastic right-back and with his one versus one defending. In terms of that, I've not seen a player like this for many years."

It's that attacking ability that is coming to the fore again, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to see more forward contributions from Wan-Bissaka at Old Trafford again.

Omogbehin adds: "I think Manchester United have been doing a fantastic job in getting that out of him.

"Before the virus you started to see him get a lot more in the final third, getting crosses in, going past people - something he can bring to the table.

"But ultimately he's a defender and he'll defend first. And he's fantastic at that, he's world class at one v one defending.

"I think he can be the complete full-back. The expectation from Manchester United full backs from the past is always to go and join in the final third when they're attacking, so he will suit the style that Manchester United want and expect from their full-backs.

"So yes over the next few years I think he can develop into the complete full-back."

Wan-Bissaka has been arguably United's most consistent player in an up and down season at Old Trafford. He's vindicated the £45million transfer fee that Solskjaer sanctioned to bring him in from Crystal Palace, slotting straight into the back four and pushing for an England spot.

And Omogbehin believes there isn't much between Wan-Bissaka and Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold.

"He's definitely in and around in, he's been unfortunate after being named in two squads but pulling out through injury," he adds.

"For me, him and Trent Alexander-Arnold are the two best full-backs in the country for different reasons. Therefore Aaron should definitely be a part of the national squad in my opinion.

"In terms of being the No.1, it will be tough, as Alexander-Arnold is doing great things for Liverpool. His assist rate is fantastic, but Aaron is a little bit different because he stops people, he stops crosses coming in, he can intercept and get tight to people. He's on point with that. And in terms of attacking, he's getting better.

"But there's room in the squad for the pair of them. England have got two fantastic prospects."
