A MUM who raised thousands of pounds in memory of her eight-year-old son who died from cancer has sadly passed away from the same disease.

Susan Hey, from Nairn, Inverness-shire, was diagnosed with incurable breast cancer a year after her son Hamish passed away from two different types of cancer.

She had previously battled breast cancer in 2015 and survived, but was then given a terminal diagnosis while she was still mourning the passing of Hamish.

The mum-of-two worked tirelessly, despite her diagnosis, to raise money in memory of her stricken son who passed away in 2017.

Tributes have flooded in for the mum-of-two who was described as a “beautiful soul”.

Susan, along with husband Sam and daughter Lily, raised over £50,000 for the charity Team Hamish which is planning to build a playpark in their hometown as a memorial to the youngster.

And now, the 41-year-old’s family have announced that she has now passed away.

On the charity’s Facebook page, her family said: “It is so tragically heartbreaking that I have to write this post - Hamish’s beautiful Mum, Susan, lost her lengthy battle with cancer in the early hours of this morning, Tuesday 26th May, having fought with unequivocal determination for the last 5 years.

“Susan will be desperately missed by all those whose hearts she touched through her gentle and open kindness.

“I take consolation in believing that Hamish has now been reunited with his Mummy to send us rainbows together forever.”

Hundreds of tributes flooded in for the much loved mum as locals rallied around the tragedy stricken family.

One said: “I’m so sorry for your loss. Susan was a lovely person and will be sadly missed. Sending all the family lots of love.”

Another added: “So deeply saddened by your loss of Susan. A beautiful soul and an inspiration to us all.”

While another said: “Beautiful inside and out, Susan you touched the hearts of everyone you met. Just the most incredible person and now you’ll be at peace with your wee Hamish.”

We previously told how last year Susan was gobsmacked to receive a pair of signed stripey socks from Avengers star Chris Hemsworth.

The Thor actor heard about the family’s plight after a chat with a costume designer pal of Susan on the set of his new movie Men In Black International.

The star said he was so “touched” by the story that he signed the socks, stuck on a wristband and snapped a few selfies before posting them.
