Prosecutor Catherine Fraser said: "He had been drinking heavily, having consumed one-and-a-half bottles of Buckfast tonic wine.

"For no reason that could be seen, he began acting aggressively towards his mother, stating he was going to slit her throat."

Then, "mumbling under his breath", he stormed from the living room to the kitchen of the property in Kingseat Avenue, Grangemouth, punched holes in a door and pulled on it, breaking it in half, and tore a light fitting out of the ceiling.

Police were called and Shaw was arrested.

Appearing at Falkirk Sheriff Court by video link from Low Moss Prison, Bishopbriggs, Shaw, unemployed, of Tummel Place, Grangemouth, pleaded guilty to using threatening and abuse behaviour towards his mum in the incident on January 23rd.

He also admitted a similar offence on March 9th, when he threatened to stab his mother and set her house on fire.

On that occasion, after he was arrested, he told police: "I'lll f***ing kill my fat maw".

Solicitor Murray Aitken, defending, said: "His relationship with his mother is a difficult one.

"They get on well normally."

Sheriff Derek Hamilton interjected: "When he's not threatening to slit her throat."

He jailed Shaw for four months for the January incident, backdating the sentence to March 10th, and imposed a four month restriction of liberty order, with an electronic ankle tag and a 6pm to 6am curfew, for the March incident.
