by

Rishi Kapoor shared quite a complicated relationship with his son Ranbir Kapoor. Although the late veteran actor had always said that Ranbir is an obedient son, he also confessed to never making friends with him. In a throwback interview with Mumbai Mirror in 2015, Rishi Kapoor revealed that he deeply regrets not being able to make friends with Ranbir. He reportedly said that he was always scared of his father, out of respect. Similarly, although Ranbir respected him, he was never friends with him and he regrets that deeply.

Elaborating further, he stated that he used to share a drink with his father but never smoked in front of him out of respect. The same is the case with Ranbir too. He shares a drink with Ranbir too but the young lad has never smoked in front of Rishi.

Although Rishi regretted not being able to develop a bond of friendship with his son, he also added that he is also not one of those guys who would want to be on back-slapping terms with his son. Further, Rishi also went on to reveal that he and his wife Neetu Kapoor did not take Ranbir’s decision to move out quite well. Talking about the same, he said that his father gave him space when he moved out after marriage and he too gave Ranbir his space too when he decided to move out. He added that Ranbir is a great son and that he listens to him but he doesn’t interfere in his career.

Rishi added that although he realised that he had ruined his relationship with his son, he also felt that it was too late to mend ways with him. According to him, it is like there is a glass wall where they both can see each other but cannot talk to each other.

Rishi Kapoor passed away on April 30, 2020 after a two-year-long battle with cancer.
