Newcastle supporters react as club reportedly want Liverpool ace Xherdan Shaqiri

by

Newcastle United are reportedly looking to raid Liverpool for playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri this summer as a takeover reportedly edges closer – and Toon supporters have reacted on Twitter to the potential signing of the Swiss attacker.

Shaqiri, 28, has struggled in his second season at Liverpool having clocked up just 10 appearances in all competitions. A lack of momentum and regular first-team football has seen the Swiss star pick up numerous injuries.

The Daily Mail have claimed that Newcastle have identified Shaqiri as a possible addition this summer, as reports claim a takeover is edging closer. A deposit has been paid by the Saudi-backed consortium, and final checks are being made.

Shaqiri last played for Liverpool in January but does have a solid record in the Premier League. The versatile attacker has had a hand in 40 goals in 114 league and cup appearances for both Liverpool and Stoke – scoring 22 and creating 18.

Liverpool will not stand in Shaqiri’s way if the former Inter Milan star does want to leave, despite having three years left on his £80,000-a-week contract, as per Spotrac. It remains to be seen how much Liverpool would want for Shaqiri.

Newcastle supporters have reacted on Twitter to the reported news that their club could raid Jurgen Klopp’s side for Shaqiri this summer, and the majority believe he would be a good signing.
