Ekiti state former governor, Ayodele Fayose, has stated that former governor of the state, Segun Oni, is not welcome to the PDP Ekiti state chapter.

According to ThisDay, Fayose noted this on Tuesday, May 26, in reaction to a declaration letter addressed to the PDP caretaker committee by Oni dated May 24, indicating his interest to return to the PDP.

The decision of Oni to return to the opposition appears to have stirred up the rift between the two former governors.

Fayose sent the former governor’s letter to the PDP's official forum on WhatsApp and stated that Oni and his group are not welcomed.

While describing the former APC chieftain and his group as paperweights, Fayose added that their names are just simply to fill the gaps in desperation for recognition.

Nonetheless, the majority of PDP members especially those in Senator Biodun Olujimi’s camp described Oni's intention to return as a welcome development.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Oni revealed why he left the APC to rejoin his former party, PDP. The former Ekiti state governor alleged that the political machination of Governor Kayode Fayemi's efforts to put his political career in jeopardy made him dump the APC.

Oni said the ruling party under the leadership of Fayemi was riddled with impunity, injustice, and disrespect for internal democracy.

The former governor said the party was being run by the governor through his surrogates like a private fiefdom, faulting the manner in which party's activities were conducted.

Similarly, a former senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, reacted to the proposed defection of Segun Oni from the APC.

Sani, on his official Twitter page, recalled that Oni back in 2019 said that APC is the future and defecting from it meant going into oblivion. The former outspoken senator said that the ex-deputy national chairman made this comment while he was in Kaduna.

Sani said that with Oni's plans to defect from the party, he is on his way to oblivion, having dumped the future behind him.
