Horrifying moment boy, 12, 'is lured away by Ukrainian paedophile who murdered him and had sex with the child's corpse after luring him to his death by offering him sweets'

A 12-year-old boy was raped and strangled by a paedophile after being offered sweets and lured into an abandoned building in Ukraine.

The schoolboy, Rodion Volkov, was reportedly returning home from football training when a man approached him and started a conversation in the city of Dnipro, in the central part of the country.

Gaining the boy's trust, the stranger led him to a nearby grocery store and bought him a pack of sweets, reports said.

CCTV images show the boy standing next to the man, 59, in a shop. Another picture then shows them walking away together.  

After they left the shop, the man allegedly invited Rodion for a tour of an abandoned building in a local park.

When they entered the building, the man raped the boy then killed him and had sexual intercourse with the body, investigators said.

Rodion's relatives reported him missing to the police after he did not come home and stopped answering phone calls.

Officers quickly tracked the boy's mobile phone and started searching the territory of the park.

Police spokeswoman Ludmyla Kopylenko said to local media: 'When officers entered the abandoned building, they saw a man lying on a mattress covered with a pile of clothes.

'The man, whose face was smeared with blood, rushed to his feet, pulling up his pants and behaving nervously.

'The officers removed the clothes and found the boy’s naked body.'

The man, who has not been named, turned out to be a local homeless, who had been living in the building, according to the police.

The 59-year-old was arrested and confessed in full saying that 'he raped the boy before throttling him and having sexual intercourse with the body', local media report.

Police launched a criminal case for rape and murder against the man, who was placed into custody.

He faces life-sentence if found guilty. The investigation continues.

Rodion was a promising young footballer from a local football school. He lived with his mother and grandparents.
