YouTube Kids app rolls out support for Apple TV
by Jay BonggoltoYouTube Kids is now available to download on Apple TV, assuming it's live in your region. The Google-owned service announced today the expanded availability of the app, designed to help parents control content their kids watch on the platform.
The Kids app works on both the 4K and the HD versions of the streaming media player. It also lets you launch the app by using the Siri Remote capability and saying “Hey Siri, open YouTube Kids.” Parents have the option to let their kids use the app without logging in to their account. For parents, though, signing in to the app on Apple TV is necessary if they want to import their current controls and settings to YouTube Kids on the device. However, changing the settings can only be done in the app using a mobile phone or tablet.
YouTube Kids was first unveiled in 2015 as part of an effort to provide age-appropriate video content to children. In the succeeding years, the app was introduced to various smart TVs such as LG's webOS TVs and Samsung Smart TVs. Today's announcement represents a further expansion of the app.
