New report claims Liverpool have not held talks regarding Adam Lallana’s short-term contract extension

The England international is still set to leave the club at the end of June.

Liverpool have not yet started discussions over a temporary contract extension for Adam Lallana in order to finish an extended Premier League season at Anfield, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The England international is out of contract at the end of next month and Liverpool are ready to let him move on. As reported by The Mirror, Burnley are the latest club to join the likes of frontrunners Leicester City, Arsenal, Tottenham, and West Ham in having an interest in signing the free agent this summer.

But, it seems that the Premier League season is going to overrun his current contract expiration date at Anfield. It has been suggested that the former Southampton star could agree to an emergency extension to that deal, which would then expire once the Premier League season is finally concluded.

Indeed, at the start of April, The Mirror claimed that Liverpool and Lallana were set to agree on such an extension.

However, the Daily Mail is suggesting that is not the case. They claim Liverpool have held ‘no discussions’ regarding any short-term extensions to players at the club who are coming to the end of their respective deals.

No contractual business will be done at Liverpool until the club is aware of the Premier League plans for potentially concluding the season.

Once those plans are finalised, then perhaps Liverpool could try and thrash out a short-term extension with the England international.

However, as of now, it would appear no such negotiations have taken place.
