Blood donations needed in Latvia, says Donor Center
The State Blood Donor center (VADC) asks donors of all blood types to respond to the demand for blood stocks, reported VADC representatives on May 27.
Donation movement has improved compared to the initial phase of the state of emergency, but it is still not at the level to maintain sufficient reserves of blood stocks.
"This is a challenging time for us, but we ask donors to be as active as they were before. Given that many companies are still working remotely, business trips are not taking place, we are only going to public venues and municipalities at the moment. We feel that people are cautious, which is very right, but we are looking forward to seeing those who are confident in their health and want to help the ones who are ill," said Egita Pole, director of VADC.
Blood can be donated to the VADC on Sēlpils Street 9, as well as sites on Merķeļa Street 11 and Gaiļezers Hospital, Hipokrāta Street 2, departments throughout Latvia, as well as special pop-up sites:
May 28, mall Domina, Ieriķu Street 3, from 12:00 to 16:00;
May 29, mall Rīga Plaza, Mūkusalas Street 71, from 11:00 to 15:00.
All sites are subject to increased precautions to guarantee a safe environment. Information on donor requirements, restrictions and rules can be found on the VADC website.
