Coronavirus: NCDC announces 276 new cases, total soars to 8,344

- NCDC has announced 276 new cases of Covid-19 in 15 states in Nigeria on Tuesday, May 26

- Lagos still leads the pack with 161 cases while Rivers follows with 36, Edo 27, Kaduna 19, Nasarawa 10, and so on

- With the latest report, Nigeria now has a total of 8,344 cases with 249 deaths and 2,385 recoveries

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced fresh 276 cases of coronavirus in the country.

The national health agency announced the new cases via its Twitter page on Tuesday evening, May 26.

According to the release which saw Lagos state lead the pack with 161 new cases while Rivers follows with 36, Edo 27, Kaduna 19, and Nasarawa 10.

Oyo state has six cases, Kano has four, Delta has three, Gombe has two while Ogun, Ondo, Borno, Abia, and Bauchi states have one case each.

In total, 2,385 patients have been successfully discharged after testing negative, while 249 deaths have been recorded so far.

Legit.ng notes that 74 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours while 16 people have died within the same period.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai extended the coronavirus lockdown in Kaduna state by two weeks, following the expiration of the state's lockdown which has spanned 60 days.

The Kaduna state governor spoke on Tuesday, May 26, through his deputy, Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe in a statewide broadcast.

Legit.ng gathers that El-Rufai said the state government has reviewed the Quarantine Orders and has approved the recommendation to extend the partial lockdown regulations for two weeks, with adjustments to permit the reopening of certain sectors.

He explained that the extension was intended to preserve the state’s ability to protect citizens, empower them to lead the fight against Covid-19 and make necessary adjustments to the partial lockdown to permit the safe resumption of the pursuit of livelihoods in more sectors.

According to Balarabe, schools, places of worship and markets will remain closed under the adjusted orders. She, however, said efforts will be kickstarted to meet relevant stakeholders to discuss how to reopen the sectors.
