Ballarat intersection upgrades: Delacombe road works continue

The next stage of roadworks are about to begin in Delacombe, after the duplication of Cherry Flat Road was completed.

A $1.5 million City of Ballarat project funded through the Ballarat West Development Contributions Plan, the new road will improve traffic safety and pedestrian connections around the Delacombe Town Centre, according to a council media release.

Stage two of the project included 300 metres of new road pavement, kerb and channel, new footpaths, drainage works, and nature strip and tree planting.

The focus will turn north to the service lanes along Wiltshire Lane - as part of the state government's $60 million Keeping Ballarat Moving project, works will soon begin to convert the roundabout at the Glenelg Highway and Wiltshire Lane intersection into a set of traffic lights.

Digging works will begin next week along Wiltshire Lane and Smythes Road service road.

According to Regional Roads Victoria, from Wednesday, June 3 to Friday, June 12, contractors will be conducting minor works along the service road, which will include night works on Thursday, June 4 from 7pm until 5am the next day.

Traffic management will be in place and speed will be reduced to 40km/h during works to ensure the safety of all road users, pedestrians and residents, including residents in Meadow Court and Edgewood Court who frequently travel along the service lane.

Major works on the project are expected to begin in 2021 following service relocation work.

Regarding Cherry Flat Road and the Keeping Ballarat Moving project, City of Ballarat mayor Ben Taylor planning for growth in Ballarat West needed to be done carefully to improve liveability and connectivity - he described the completion of stage two as a "fantastic milestone for the area".

"Cherry Flat Road is a great example of how the City of Ballarat can work with both the Victorian Government and developers to deliver a project that will be an important asset to current and future residents in the Ballarat West Growth Area," he said in a statement.

"It has added enormous value to Ballarat West's infrastructure and will deliver significant benefits for many generations to come."

The Regional Roads Victoria project also includes a new roundabout at the Dyson Drive and Ballarat-Carngham Road intersection.
