Queen Elizabeth was once thrown in the back of a Land Rover after a security breach

The queen has broken several rules during her reign.

Did you know there was no such thing as a royal walkabout until the queen first introduced the idea in 1970? She wanted to be more "approachable" to the public. Well, as approachable as one can be as a member of the royal family.

The monarchy has beefed up security over the years, and understandably so – check out our article that looks into the biggest assassination attempts on the royal family here. On one occasion, Queen Elizabeth was even thrown into the back of a van, for her own protection, of course.

According to Express, royal expert, Wesley Kerr, details the moment in ITV's documentary Inside the Crown: Secrets of the Royals.

"I remember in Kingston Jamaica the queen was determined to do a walkabout," he explains.

"She said 'I am the queen of Jamaica, I will go to downtown Kingston.' So she began this walkabout, and the ladies are putting their arms around her.

"I am afraid the bodyguards practically lifted the queen up and threw her in the back of the Land Rover," Wesley laughs.

"But she wanted to be seen, and she wanted to meet the people."

In the moment the queen's security detail probably jumped at the sight of the very first person laying a hand on the queen, even if it was just to give her a warm hug. And the queen likely welcomed the embrace too.

Michelle Obama recalls meeting – and hugging – the queen, in her 2018 memoir, Becoming.

"We were just two tired ladies oppressed by our shoes," she wrote of the special moment, living to tell the tale!
