The Chinese tech giant, Xiaomi, is one of the most popular brands in India. The company and its subsidiary consider the Southeast Asian market as a very important region and have said that it will launch new products under Redmi‘s “Phone-Plus” strategy.

According to Xiaomi India’s Chief Marketing Officer, Anuj Sharma, “We have finalized the phase one of the phone plus strategy for the Redmi brand and have decided to launch TWS earphones.” The senior executive said that the company is working on phase two strategy for its Redmi brand. This new strategy will involve products that connect to its smartphone strategy and “are looking at quite a few different segments.”

This strategy is being undertaken to disrupt the current TWS market, similar to what Redmi had achieved when it launched its first smartphones in India. Counterpoint Research had revealed that the TWS market had seen a staggering growth of 700 percent in 2019, with brands like Apple, JBL, and Noise leading the category. Thus, future Xiaomi launches may target different price segments to appeal to a broader market in India.

In other words, Xiaomi is currently planning on expanding its ecosystem around its smartphones and its supplementing products. This could be indicative of smart products like bands, smartwatches, earbuds, and more. As of right now, the company is confirmed to soon launch new TWS earbuds, which is a category that has seen immense growth in India recently.
