UK - Sustainable retail specialists Duty Free Innovation have brought to market a FlySafe protection kit, aimed at airport retailers to give their shoppers an affordable, must-have solution for keeping safe and reducing contact when travelling.

While some guidance on travel has started to filter through, what has become clear is that strict measures on social distancing, sanitisation and the wearing of face masks when travelling will become the new normal.

To help support in giving travellers confidence in being in the airport and for their ongoing journey, DFI have created a sustainable FlySafe protection kit for retailers to offer to their shoppers at an affordable price. Each sealed kit compromises a reusable certified face mask, 3 pairs of disposable gloves, a pack of three sanitising wipes and an information card on safe travel guidance.  The components in the kits have been carefully sourced from licenced PPE manufacturers to provide certified protection that will comply with all travel and destination regulations.

According to DFI, the concept will provide retailers with a low-cost turnkey solution to what will be a must-stock impulse product for retailers in a post-lockdown world. DFI spokesperson Simon Best says ”while many passengers will be looking to buy the kits to provide protection for the journey they are on, we also see a huge market for those looking to have extra stock for the rest of their trip or just to have one or two packs in their bags for emergencies”.

DFI say they have tried to keep the FlySafe Kit as sustainable as possible as the volumes of product used will be very high.  Best says “while the mask filters themselves are not very sustainable - unfortunately they are a necessary evil, we have tried to make the rest of the kit as sustainable as possible. The outer packaging is made from 100% home compostable corn starch material, and similarly the gloves and wipes are also bio-degradable.

DFI spokesperson Simon Best says “The sustainable kits present a practical and affordable solution for retailers in providing what will fast become a travel retail essential”.

He continues, “The FlySafe kits will also support retailer recovery in a post lockdown world as a truly incremental purchase with no cannibalisation of other categories”.

DFI state the kit, which already has interest from some key airport retailers, will provide airport retailers with a complementary impulse item that will help increase passenger spend in these difficult times.
