E-pass not required for travellers moving in/out of Mumbai airport

by

Mumbai: Following the Maharashtra government's decision to resume operation of domestic flights in the state, the Mumbai police has decided to allow passenger/s moving to and from the Mumbai airport to travel without an e-pass.

However, the passenger has to carry the valid boarding pass along with him/ her during the journey, along with other identity proof which can be produced on demand during security checks on roads.

Mumbai police spokesperson Pranay Ashok told Mirror Online on Wednesday that the same goes for the person/s travelling to drop or pick a passenger at the airport."Those driving to drop a passenger or receive at the airport need not carry an e-pass. But at the same time they should carry a copy (soft copy) of the boarding pass of the passenger/s'" Ashok said.

However, the police made it clear that a reasonable time frame should be followed while undertaking such a travel to or from the airport. "For example, if someone is travelling from Borivali to catch a flight at 11 am from the domestic airport, the journey should not start at 7 or 8 am just because one has a valid boarding pass. The reasonable timing for starting the journey should be maximum 2-3 hours before departure, given the scant traffic on road. For people travelling from outside Mumbai city limits, another hour can be exempted," he said.

Pranay said during the travel, social distancing norms have to be strictly followed by the traveller and his/her co-passengers. "A maximum of two persons, apart from the driver, can be allowed in one vehicle," he said.
