Friends' Lisa Kudrow promises 'something very special' at the reunion
by Tilly PearceIt seems Lisa Kudrow is just as excited as the rest of us about the upcoming Friends reunion – despite it currently being put on hold.
The actress is reuniting with Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer for a one-off recorded special later this year.
Despite the show being postponed, Lisa has promised it’s worth the wait and even she’s not sure what to expect.
She told Entertainment Tonight: ‘I can’t wait for it to happen. The six of us haven’t been in a room together in front of people in 25 years and only once a few years ago, privately for dinner.
‘I can only imagine [what’s going to happen]. It’s gonna be fun. I mean, it’ll be really fun.’
Friends officially ended back in 2004, but has managed to maintain such a beloved fanbase that it has constantly remained on TV thanks to repeats ever since.
It’s assumed that the TV special, which will be filmed in front of a live studio audience, will now be filmed at the end of summer.
Despite its internationally beloved status and being forever iconic in its connection to the 90s, the show has come under fire for its now problematic plotlines.
But Lisa has defended the show, and said it needs to be seen as a ‘time capsule’ rather than an accurate depiction of what’s accepted in the modern day.
She also previously bluntly admitted that there were struggles among the cast dealing with that level of fame immediately after the show ended – and learning to move on from it.
‘There were six of us who were put in the spotlight together, right?’ the 56-year-old told Sunday Times Culture magazine. ‘Yet it was still challenging, even though we had each other to bounce off.
‘I know fame can be hard, even if that’s what people seek out, and, yes, at the time I made The Comeback, I was concerned.’
She continued: ‘I was watching reality shows, wondering what they were going to do when the show is over.’
‘They don’t have anything else to keep them in the spotlight, and they’ve had the most humiliating things broadcast nationwide.
‘I was worried about people not being able to mentally survive that – and, sure enough, there were casualties.’
Friends is available now on Netflix in the UK.
