Arena 10 Thonglor to host rent-free market to boost the beau monde
by Coconuts BangkokA nightlife destination known for clubs and restaurants in the heart of Thonglor will host a rent-free weekend market next month to help upmarket businesses hurt by COVID-19.
Arena 10 will not charge vendors to sell at the market to be set up on weekends for all of June. Its 400 stalls, divided into seven shopping zones, won’t offer typical night market fare but rather offer goods and services from those sitting somewhere between the top 1% and bottom 95%.
Hotels will have space to sell services and packages, cash-strapped celebs will hawk their clothes, and brands can market their products. There will even be an area for airlines to make sales, and property owners to resell their real estate.
The project is led by a team including Arena 10 landowner Tan Passakornnatee, the celebrity entrepreneur Ichitan juice man; and stand-up comedian Udom “Note” Taephanit. The market will be dubbed, amazingly, “Shopping Place Providing Center 2.” It’s the spiritual successor of a similar effort they made in 2010 when downtown malls were shut down by upcountry protesters.
Apart from Thonglor, markets will also open at the Ninja Market in Chonburi city and One Nimman in Chiang Mai.
The market will be open 4pm to 10pm, Friday through Sunday. Vendors must complete an application and explain how their businesses have been affected.
