Digital camera ODM Altek will supply 3D depth-sensing lens modules for use in XRSpace Mova, a 5G-based standalone VR device that XRSpace unveiled on May 26, with shipments to begin in the third quarter of 2020, according to company chairman and CEO Alex Hsia.

Altek has been developing edge vision AI and 3D depth-sensing technologies for years in a bid to shift business focus from digital camera production to development of imaging solutions, Hsia said. Altek is promoting application of 3D depth-sensing lens modules to smart home and office devices as well as ADAS, Hsia noted.

Altek has developed an edge vision AI solution for use in IP surveillance cameras by integrating its AI Box AIoT edge computing device, with FaceMe, a facial recognition engine developed by CyberLink.

Altek posted consolidated revenues of NT$1.114 billion (US$37 million), gross margin of 24.22%, operating loss of NT$30 million and net loss of NT$31.5 million for first-quarter 2020. Its consolidated revenues of NT$516.2 million for April increased 41.78% sequentially and 0.67% on year, and those of NT$1.630 billion for January-April decreased 27.13% on year.
