Liverpool tipped to make Erling Haaland transfer by star's former coach

Erling Haaland has been tipped to one day make the move to Liverpool by his former coach Jesse Marsch.

The pair worked together at Red Bull Salzburg where boss Marsch witnessed Haaland's rapid rise to prominence before the youngster's big-money transfer to Borussia Dortmund.

Haaland played against Liverpool twice during his time at Salzburg, even getting on the scoresheet at Anfield, which contributed to his 24 goals for the Austrian outfit this season.

He's been in a similarly rich vein of form since completing his switch to Germany, netting another 12 times in 13 appearances, and Marsch feels there's still plenty more to come.

"He is a very special talent and just when you take his speed, his explosiveness, his size, his power, his technical ability, finishing, he would immediately be in the upper echelon of players in the world," Marsch told the Liverpool Echo.

"But then when you also consider his tactical intelligence, his motivation, his discipline, his desire to improve and grow, then the combination means you have something very unique.

"We are only scratching the surface of the potential for Erling."

Haaland suffered a setback in his Dortmund career on Tuesday as he limped out of his side's 1-0 defeat to title rivals Bayern Munich.

The 19-year-old lasted 72 minutes of the crunch Bundesliga clash, before being substituted due to what seemed to be a muscle injury.

Dortmund struggled to mount a serious attack following Haaland's departure, which shows his importance to his new team already.

It is felt the striker's time at Dortmund will serve as a stepping stone to greater things once he has developed more experience at the top level, and despite links with Man Utd and Real Madrid, Marsch believes Liverpool would be a more suitable destination.

"He will continue to do well at Dortmund and I'm not sure how long he'll be there before it's time for him to take the next step, but he has the potential to be one of the best players in the world, no doubt," Marsch added.

"It's another player that Liverpool would be very lucky to have.

"It won't be cheap, but he loves the explosive style of play and being in open spaces, running in behind defences and being aggressive.

"Just by theory, it fits the way Liverpool plays. He would be an incredible fit."
