Zimbabwe braces for Covid-19 spike

by

Health Minister Obadiah Moyo told Parliament that Government was bracing for a spike in coronavirus infections in the country mainly coming from returnees and deportees.

He said the country would likely get positive cases from Botswana and South Africa. Moyo said there was need for the ministry to double testing and contact tracing efforts.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe has applied to be part of an international clinical trial process being coordinated by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to assess treatment options for Covid-19.

WHO country representative Dr Alex Gasasira yesterday told reporters that initial processes that included preparation of the trial protocol and in-country ethical assessments have been completed.

Drugs under trial include remdesvir, lopinavir, ritonavir, chloroquine and hydroxychlorine.
