Residents of damp-ridden, 100-year-old houses could soon be rehomed in new build properties as Renfrewshire Council unveils plans for the regeneration of the Tannahill area.

PAISLEY DAILY EXPRESS: Live news as it happens

The local authority this week published its plans to create 101 new homes on the former St Fergus’ Primary School site.

The development includes various types of houses, from one-bedroom bungalows to four-bedroom semi-detached and terraced houses.

This week, AS Homes - appointed by Renfrewshire Council to design houses for the Tannahill area last year - revealed a footprint which shows most of the houses will be fronting directly on to Blackstoun Road and Bankfoot Road, with a green playing area at the heart of the development

Pedestrian access to schools, connected estates and green spaces on the other side of Bankfoot Road are also included in the drawings.

Existing homes in the area will be demolished to make way for the new scheme and Renfrewshire Council has insisted the new homes will be given to those currently living in the area.

John McIntyre, chairman of Ferguslie Park Community Council, said: “We have been working with the council officers and the tenants and residents of the Tannahill area over the last year and a half to get to this stage of the development.

“Our main aim was to ensure that the new homes built would be for the existing tenants and residents as the top priority and the existing community would play a major role in the design and layout of the new estate.

“With this now agreed, we as a community council totally welcome brand new council homes to replace the old dilapidated damp-ridden homes that were built in the 1920s, nearly 100 years ago.”

John added: “The community of Tannahill deserves to have brand new modern homes with all the latest energy saving technologies built in.

“Areas need good quality affordable council housing and I’m glad to see it happening in Ferguslie Park.”

The plans have been published on Renfrewshire Council’s website and the local authority is seeking people’s feedback before the development is finalised and a planning application submitted.

A spokesman for Renfrewshire Council said: “Residents of Ferguslie Park are being invited to tell us what they think of these plans for new-build council housing on the site of the former St Fergus Primary.

“The new development will be used to rehouse existing tenants from the Tannahill area, which is being redeveloped as part of a wider masterplan for the area being created with the local community – but everybody is welcome to
apply.

“The responses to this exhibition will help shape the proposals going forward.

“Further information will be available on the finalised designs in early summer this year."
