Karnataka to open temples, mosques and churches after May 31: CM Yediyurappa

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Yediyurappa on Wednesday said that his government will re-open temples, mosques and churches in the state after May 31.

"We are going to open temples, mosques and churches in the state after May 31, he said while speaking to media in Bengaluru.

The Chief Minister added that the "guidelines will be followed" as suggested by experts for opening the worship places.

"We have no objections to open malls and cinema halls, but we are waiting for the guidelines of the central government, Prime Minister will take decisions to allow malls and cinemas to open," he added.

Yediyurappa has said that people from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerala and Tamil Nadu will not be allowed in the state till May 31.

Guest workers from Bihar walked about 40 km to reach Bengaluru railway station. Bablu Kumar, a guest worker, told Mirror, "We stay in Jigani. On Sunday morning, we were asked to leave immediately to the railway station as the government was arranging trains for us to go home. Many of us, men, women and children, walked to the City railway station. On Sunday night, we were given food by some volunteers and we spent the night at the Majestic bus stand, hoping that there would be a train for us on Monday. Another guest worker from Jaipur told Mirror that he received a message at 10:30 pm on Sunday that people who intend to leave for Jaipur must reach Gate 2 at Palace Grounds on Monday morning. While the ticket fare of Rs 1000 mentioned in the message, there was no instruction on how the workers would reach the Palace Grounds. The guest worker named Nirmad and his friends started walking from their homes at 2 am on Monday. After changing two buses, they reached Palace Grounds at 6.30 am, where they found over 2,000 people had already gathered.
