Pragyan Ojha eyeing overseas T20 leagues: The former Indian spinner had become the latest player to express interest in overseas leagues.

113 wickets in 24 Test matches at an average of 30.26 including a career-best performance in his last Test should ideally guarantee a long run to any bowler but it wasn’t the case with former India spinner Pragyan Ojha.

A maiden 10-wicket haul in a Test saw him not playing for India ever again in the most unfortunate of circumstances. Ojha, who announced retirements from all formats earlier this year, thanked god for being able to play Test cricket for India in a recent interview.

“I’m very happy that I ended up playing for my country and I became a Test cricketer. Saying that, I would have loved to play more Test matches. That’s how it is. You want to play more and more for your country. I am thankful to god that I ended up being a Test cricketer,” Ojha was quoted as saying to Arun Venugopal on his Instagram Live show ‘Homerun With AV’.

Ojha, who represented Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians in his nine-year long Indian Premier League career, has become the latest cricketer to express his intention of playing in overseas T20 leagues.

Most recently, veteran batsmen in Suresh Raina and Robin Uthappa had also opined on the prospect of being granted permission by the BCCI to play in overseas T20 leagues. “I’m trying to go and play in some leagues outside India. Definitely, I’m looking to do that, hopefully, things work out.

“It totally depends on if we can get permission from BCCI. I will talk to BCCI whenever the time comes. Right now nobody knows what’s happening. But I’ll definitely request BCCI to consider this, because I can go and play and enjoy myself,” Ojha said.

Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh had to withdraw his name from ECB’s The Hundred last year for he still is an active player for IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings.

Former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and fast bowler Manpreet Gony had represented Toronto Nationals in the second season of the Global T20 Canada last year but both did the same post announcing international retirement. With 33-year old Ojha also announcing his retirement, he should be able to play overseas without any objection.

Yuvraj, who announced international retirement in June 2019, went on to represent Maratha Arabians in the Abu Dhabi T10 League as well. It was reported that Yuvraj would be joined by Ambati Rayudu and Irfan Pathan during the T10 League but that didn’t happen.
