Spike in Covid-19 numbers in Chennai

Chennai: As many as 89 lives have been lost due to the Novel Coronavirus in the city. At the fag end of the fourth lockdown, due to aggressive testing, the Covid-19 numbers are showing an upward trajectory.

According to the Greater Chennai City Corporation, an area-wise breakup of Covid-19 numbers shows that 5,967 persons currently have the infection and 5,504 patients have recovered and have been discharged from hospitals.

Royapuram remains as the largest hotspot for the infection with 1,168 patients with the virus. Close to 955 have been discharged from hospital. 22 people died in the past two months due to the infection in this locality alone.

Tondiarpet in North Chennai is the second largest containment zone. Here, 716 persons have Covid-19 and 433 have been sent home from hospitals. 11 people here have passed away after getting infected.

Kodambakkam, another hotspot, has 625 persons with the virus and 894 quarantined persons have subsequently tested negative for the infection and six persons have died.

Another hotspot Teynampet has 659 persons with Coronavirus and 592 have fully recovered from it. 11 residents of Teynampet have died due to the infection.

In Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar, where the virus has been spreading fast, even as 610 persons have recovered, 659 still have the virus and 16 persons have died of Coronavirus.

Anna Nagar has 501 patients being treated for Covid-19 and 461 have fully recovered from it, 13 persons lost their lives to the pandemic in the locality. 306 persons in Valsaravakkam have contracted the virus. While 448 have been discharged from the hospital, four persons have died here.

Ambattur has 209 patients with the infection and 275 have recovered. No lives were lost here.
In the neighbourhood of Adyar, nearly 351 are battling the virus and 297 have overcome it, and officials said five persons died due to Covid-19.

The release said that Thirvottiyur has 231 persons with Coronavirus. There are 82 infected patients in Manali, 168 in Madharavam, 86 in Alandur and 126 in Perungudi and 126 Covid-19 patients in Shollinganallur.
