Three persons lost their lives, while 14 others sustained varying degrees of injury in two separate crashes on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The two crashes, which occurred in Ogere and Mowe areas of the Remo-North and Obafemi-Owode local government areas of Ogun State, involved 29 persons.

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Command, Mr Clement Oladele, confirmed the accidents in a statement on Tuesday.

Oladele said the crashes occurred on Monday.

He said the first crash occurred around 6.35am before the Isara Bridge, near Ogere, and involved about seven vehicles.

He explained that vehicles involved in the crash included a DAF truck with number plate JHN 410 XA and a Mazda bus with number plate KRD 290 XY.

According to him, three out of the 20 persons involved died, while 10 others sustained injuries.

Oladele stated, “The corpses of the victims have been deposited in the FOS Hospital morgue in Isara, while five of the injured have been taken to the Victory Hospital.

“Three other survivors were taken to the Idera Hospital, while two other victims were taken to the Sagamu General Hospital for treatment.”

Oladele attributed the cause of the first accident to wrongful overtaking and excessive speed.

On the second accident, the FRSC boss said it occurred around 2.35pm at the AP turning, Lufape.

He said nine people, made up of seven male adults and two female adults, were involved in the crash.

He noted that four persons were injured in the crash, which affected three vehicles.
