Man, 25, arrested and charged after teenage girl ‘raped’ near Bothwell Castle

A MAN has been arrested and charged after a teenage girl was allegedly raped in Lanarkshire woodlands.

Cops were called in following a report of an alleged sex attack near Bothwell Castle last Wednesday.

It’s claimed the teenager had been in the wooded area with friends before becoming separated.

It’s then alleged that a man approached and sexually assaulted her some time between 5.45pm and 7.30pm that evening.

The suspect is said to have then made off on a bike following the alleged attack, near to the Clyde Walkway.

And police have now confirmed that a 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged.

A spokesperson said: “Police in Lanarkshire can confirm that a 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged following the report of a serious sexual assault in Bothwell.

“The alleged incident took place between 5.45pm and 7.30pm on Wednesday, 20 May, 2020 when a teenage girl was approached by a man who it is claimed sexually assaulted her near to the Clyde Walkway.

“Enquiries remain ongoing.”
