10 players Barcelona are prepared to sell for Lautaro Martinez
by Nishant Narayanan10 Barcelona players linked with an exit to make room for Lautaro Martinez.
Barcelona have made Lautaro Martinez a priority this summer with multiple big names linked with a move away from the Nou Camp to make it happen.
The club have 35 players for the next season with many of them over the age of 30, along with some who have been haunted by reoccurring injuries throughout their Barca career.
The Spanish side are low on cash which might make the Lautaro deal very difficult as his buy-out clause is set at 111 million euros. The club are looking into a more creative approach to this problem after making multiple players available on the transfer market for the next transfer window.
Former Inter Milan striker, Ivan Zamorano, however, feels confident that the Catalan giants will not be able to sign the Argentine forward this summer as they lack the money to make it happen.
“I’m convinced he’ll stay, Barca have to put €100 million on the table; that’s the minimum Inter will accept for Lautaro, even if [Inter coach Antonio] Conte likes [Arturo] Vidal. But Barca have financial problems that won’t allow them to take Lautaro, so that’s why I think he’ll stay. I have no doubts.” Zamorano told Mexican broadcasters, Mision TUDN, via Goal
Here are the 10 Barca players that are currently linked with an exit this summer, either as a direct transfer to Inter or a transfer elsewhere just to fund the Lautaro Deal.
Nelson Semedo
Semedo is part of a creative transfer project of Barca, where the Catalan giants are looking to trade one Portuguese with another. Joao Cancelo of Manchester City is the man Barca are targetting in the hopes of later trading the City player for Inter’s Lautaro Martinez as the Italian sides are keen on signing Cancelo this summer. This would mean that Blaugrana will be lacking a proper right-back next season and they have targetted Juventus full-back, Mattia De Sciglio, to resolve this issue.
Rafinha Alcantara
Currently, on loan at Celta Vigo, Rafinha has been struggling to return to form ever since his injury. The La Masia graduate has one year remaining in his current contract and Barca are looking to sell the midfielder this summer by including him in an exchange deal. Inter Milan are interested in the midfielder but will not consider lowering Lautaro’s asking price for him.
Arturo Vidal
Arturo Vidal has been strongly linked with a move to Inter this summer with a recent report even suggesting that the deal is almost finalized where the only pending criteria is to reach an agreement for the player’s wages. If the salary offered is anything close to what he is currently getting at Barca, he will become the most paid footballer at Inter.
Ivan Rakitic
The Croatian midfielder has reached the end of his Barca career with millions of fans wising for the 32-year-old’s departure this summer. Rakitic’s form has been poor in recent years despite coach Quique Setien’s belief that the team performs their best when the trio of De Jong, Busquets, and Rakitic is out on the field. Inter Milan and Juventus have both enquired about his availability with Inter looking to include him in the Lautaro deal while Juve might be forced to settle for Rakitic after their initial request of Arthur Melo instead.
Ousmane Dembele
Barca president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, has recently claimed that he believes Dembele to be a better player than Neymar. Ironically, it is Dembele who has been reported to be linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain this season to be traded for Neymar. Dembele has been haunted by his reoccurring injury that has lingered for the entirety of his days at Camp Nou. Quique Setien remains optimistic about the player’s future at the club but the Board might consider selling their French star if the right offer is received.
Antoine Griezmann
Griezmann joined Barca with great controversy especially considering his humiliating rejection of Barca a year prior to his arrival. Despite this, Greizmann was favoured by many who expected a successful time for him at Camp Nou but the World Cup winner is struggling under Barca’s current formation of 4-3-3. He is known to be at his best playing as a Striker or in a two-man attacking formation but the Catalans opt for a 3 man attack with Luis Suarez upfront. This has forced Griezmann to play from the left flank, a role that is completely new to him. Barca is now prepared to listen to any offers made above 120 million euros for the French international.
Samuel Umtiti
Umtiti is in a similar situation to that of fellow countryman, Ousmane Dembele, as they both have struggled with injuries over the past few seasons. Umtiti was once the undisputed center-back alongside Gerard Pique but after his knee surgery, the French International has seen his club and country teammate, Clement Lenglet, take over his role with both the sides. Barca are now reluctant to give Umtiti more chances to prove his talent and are looking to sell him this summer.
Philippe Coutinho
Coutinho has been the biggest talking point for Barca transfers this summer as the Brazilian has been named as someone that the club will actively look to sell. The issue Barca face is that his transfer fee of 80 million euros along with an expensive weekly wage has thrown off multiple candidates. Multiple Premier League sides, however, have been reportedly linked with the midfielder with Arsenal, Newcastle, and Chelsea leading the race.
Jean-Clair Todibo
Currently loaned to Bundesliga side, Schalke, Todibo has been a promising center-back this season with the German side having the option to sign the defender permanently by paying 25 million euros. Schalke, however, are currently unsure about this as they face financial crisis themselves. Despite this, Barca are confident in making a sale for the French international as multiple European giants are interested in his services with Juventus discussing the possibility of including Todibo in the Miralem Pjanic deal.
Martin Braithwaite
Braithwaite turns 29 next month and despite his wish to remain at Barca for many more years, the club have decided that in spite of his positive input to the club ever since his arrival as a substitute for injured Dembele, they are willing to accept an offer that matches the 18 million euros they spent on the Danish international.
Do you agree with the players that Barca have selected or is there someone you don’t want the club to sell?
