Maharashtra on Wednesday reported a dip in COVID-19 cases as compared to the massive spike the state witnessed earlier this week. According to a report published by the Medical Education and Drugs Department (Maharashtra) on May 27, the state recorded 2091 fresh cases in the past 24 hours, along with 97 deaths. With the death toll at 1,792, the mortality rate stands at 3.27 per cent.

During a press briefing on Tuesday, Union Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal said, "A total of 60,490 patients have recovered so far from #COVID19. Recovery rate continues to improve and presently it is 41.61%. The fatality rate is one among the lowest in the world, it is 2.87 per cent now." India reported 6,387 new cases in the past 24 hours.

While Maharashtra sees a gradual decline in cases, the state registered the highest number of deaths in a single day. Out of 97 deaths reported in the past 24 hours, 39 belong to the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). According to the MEDD report, the BMC recorded 1,002 fresh cases.

An increasing number of people who belong to the age group of 31-40 years have tested positive for the virus -- 21.06 per cent of the state tally, to be precise. Testing in the state has crossed the four lakh mark, with 85 per cent of samples testing negative. Out of 28,527 patients admitted, 78 per cent are asymptomatic in nature while four per cent are critical.
