HTC said to launch first 5G phone in July, Desire 20 Pro launch expected in June

by

HTC has been absent from the smartphone market launch-wise for more than two years now.

HTC was reported to be working on a new Desire phone back in April. Dubbed Desire 20 Pro, the smartphone reportedly visited the Geekbench wherein its outline and specifications were revealed. Now, a fresh report has suggested HTC could launch its first 5G phone in July, also the first smartphone in many years after the U12 Plus. But it will not be the Desire 20 Pro since HTC is expected to out it sometime in June. The Desire 20 Pro is said to be a 4G smartphone that could come with mid-range specifications.

According to a report by ePrice, citing sources familiar with the development, HTC's first 5G smartphone may be unveiled about two months from now. While it is not currently known what the specifics of the smartphone will be, the report has suggested it could be HTC's flagship phone with premium-end specifications. HTC will pitch 5G as a selling point for this smartphone, which makes sense since 5G is still catching up and smartphone makers are still not late for joining in. Apple is poised to enter the 5G segment with its rumoured four iPhone 12 models later this year, as well.

Since nothing concrete is known about the 5G smartphone from HTC, its Desire 20 Pro remains the only one to generate buzz in the rumour mill. It was first spotted on Geekbench in April with specifications that include either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor or a Snapdragon 665 one. The listing also suggested there will be 6GB of RAM on the smartphone. The outline shared via the listing revealed a triple-camera setup at the back, a punch-hole display, and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The report has added the Desire 20 Pro will only be a 4G smartphone.

The HTC Desire 20 Pro is reported to launch in June, per the report. As the Taiwanese company has not said anything about the smartphone or its launch yet, the readers should take this information with a pinch of salt.

HTC's last flagship smartphone was the U12+, if not the Blockchain-based Exodus 1. The HTC U12+ was launched in 2018 and came with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC under the hood. The smartphone had dual cameras at the back and dual cameras on the front. It was priced at about EUR 450 back in 2018.
