'I had done enough' - Derby County star Jack Marriott reveals his playoff final disappointment

The striker did not make the starting lineup

Derby County forward Jack Marriott has revealed what it felt like to be left out of last season's Championship playoff final.

The 25-year-old scored twice in that famous semi-final win over Leeds United at Elland Road only to miss out on the Wembley final against Aston Villa.

He ended up coming off the bench to get the Rams back into the game with a goal nine minutes remaining, but it wasn't enough with Villa winning 2-1.

In the club's Ask a Ram feature, Marriott was asked by a young fan how it felt to miss out on the starting XI for the final.

"Naturally quite disappointed," he replied.

"I felt like I had done enough in the semi-final to earn a place in the starting XI.

"So I was naturally disappointed, but we were in the final and we wanted to give ourselves the best opportunity.

"So, swallowed that disappointment and thought 'whenever I get on, I will try to do my best for the team'.

"Unfortunately, the goal I scored wasn't enough to get something from the game and push it to extra-time."
