‘Disgruntled’ employee kills three at Phitsanulok radio station

by

At least three people were killed Wednesday morning at a state radio station in Phitsanulok province when an employee opened fire.

Station Director Sanit Butrmangkul and two others died when Vim Sornsood, an engineer there, shot them to death, according to police.

Senior engineers Jirawut Sumettepanun and Phumsaran Panphum were also killed. Prung Chandaeng, another station employee, was injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.

After the shooting, Vim was taken into custody by the police. Two guns – 9mm- and .38-caliber pistols – were found in his possession. Police suspect Vim was a disgruntled employee unhappy over an unspecified workplace conflict.

Operating at 1026 AM and 94.25 FM, NNT3 is one of several regional radio stations operated by the National Broadcasting Service.
